Dr Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon and a health influencer by profession, recently shared his experience on the challenges of being married to a popular star.
Dr. Sriram Nene opens up about being shadowed by Madhuri Dixit’s fame
Dr Sriram Nene recently sat down to talk with Dr Deepak Chopra, and they shared their conversation on his YouTube channel. During the conversation, he mentioned that his wife, Madhuri, is a star in the country, and he often gets overshadowed by her huge fame and success. Although he deeply loves and admires Madhuri and her work, he has felt imposter syndrome. But it also made him realise that one shouldn’t underestimate the power they hold to make meaningful changes. In his words:
“I’m the accidental Yankee in King Arthur’s court and the incidental tourist if you will. My wife’s the famous one; I’m just here for the ride. But, other than the imposter syndrome that all of us face on the spectrum, it’s the power of one to make a difference in the lives of many. Don’t ever underestimate how powerful each of you is.”
Dr Sriram Nene shared that his life changed tremendously after he moved to India. He shared that he used to look after many celebrities at UCLA before he got married, where he witnessed how they wanted anonymity for some time. However, he is experiencing the opposite because he has become famous due to his wife, and people often ask him for selfies. Dr. Sriram Nene explained:
“The idea of using fame to other people’s benefit is what we were thinking about. I was at UCLA, and I took care of a lot of celebrities. This was even before I was married. The only thing they wanted was anonymity. They only wanted to put their pants on one leg at a time and not be addressed. Now, I’m facing the opposite of that. Everyone wants a selfie with me. How do I deal with this? Honestly, I want to have a conversation with them, but it becomes challenging.”
When Dr Sriram Nene shared his views on the downside of fame
Previously, Dr Sriram Nene sat down with Ranveer Allahbadia on his YouTube channel and discussed the repercussions of fame. He admitted that sometimes he gets tired of it. Dr Nene mentioned that he greatly loves his wife, Madhuri Dixit. But, despite he and Madhuri being two different individuals, he has been seen as a lesser one in his marriage. However, the cardiovascular surgeon explained that he values individuality and believes everyone should be given equal respect. Consequently, no one holds authority at their home and everyone is seen as an equal. Dr. Sriram Nene shared:
“Sometimes, it gets me down… The hardest part for me, and I’ll be honest, I’ve never confessed this… My wife and I are independent, living beings. And yet, sometimes, they just see me as her lesser half. I joke about that because she’s certainly the better half. She’s the love of my life. Everyone I know should be given respect, top to bottom. There is no ‘sir’ in my house, in my office, or anywhere.”
